Autumn Season Starts off in New Jersey
After a week break of the LPGA, Klára Spilková resumes her American tour. On Thursday, 1 October, the Czech golfer starts in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey.
The tournament is played for four rounds on the Bay Course in the Seaview Golf Club with 71 par and the length of 5,660 m. The KPMG global team and the Czech Golf Team member will seek to up her latest results, after she withdrew from the ANA Inspiration, California due to a back injury and then did not pass the cut in Oregon.
“The time off helped a lot. I only played several times and mostly focused on massages and physical therapy. I feel full of energy again after I eased my pace,” Klára looked back at her late-summer programme when she played five consecutive tournaments.
On the last year’s ShopRite LPGA Classic, which took place in June, the Czech golfer started off with the promising 68 shots (-3), only to fail to pass the cut in the second round with 77 (+6). This year, the golfers will find the course in a condition not customary in the New Jersey club.
“Autumn has come hard here, with plenty of rain, and the course is soaked and soft. I remember the greens here were very hard last year. These days, the ball literally stops where it lands,” commented the 77th player of the all-season Race to CME Globe ranking on the current conditions.
The ShopRite Classic title will be defended by the American Lexi Thompson. Klára Spilková starts in the first round at 13:28 local time.
