Klára Davidson Spilková enters season’s final phase in Hong Kong
Czech professional golfer Klára Davidson Spilková is gearing up for the final phase of this year’s season. Davidson Spilková will kick off this stage as the captain of one of the teams at the Aramco mini-series in Hong Kong. Like the previous three events in the series, this fourth, out of five in total, is played for one million dollars, which will be divided among the best players in the individual competition and the team competition, consisting of three professionals and one amateur golfer.
Even though last year’s champion and world number four, Nelly Korda, is missing from the tournament, the event boasts great names in the starting list. The biggest star of the team competition will undoubtedly be the world number one and the current Women’s British Open champion, Lilia Vu, an American golfer of Vietnamese descent. The line-up will also feature the current world number three, South Korean Jin-Young Ko.
“I’ve had a week of rest without golf, a week by the Adriatic Sea, and a week of intense preparation, which has done me good. I feel rested and well-prepared for the end of the season. Although I have played near Hong Kong before, the course will be new to me, and I must admit it is not only very old but also very beautiful. The English built it here probably sometime in the late 19th century and named each hole, and I like every one them. So far, I’ve played only ten, but I still have the pro-am ahead so I hope I’ll have a chance to get to know all the local holes, and their stories, well enough and get used to the traditionally small greens,” said the golfer from Hong Kong.
Not only will the course be a novelty for Davidson Spilková, but she will have to do without her regular caddie and husband, Sean, at the tournament for the first time this year.
“It’s true. Sean had to stay in Prague this time and could not come with me. So, I will have to rely on one of the local caddies. It will be a greater challenge, but I’m looking forward to the team competition anyway. I arrived here on Monday, and I’m still struggling a bit with the course, high temperatures above 35 degrees, nearly 100% humidity, and the time difference, but I believe I will adjust by Friday,” the Czech golfer described her mood from Hong Kong.
For the first time in a while, five Czech Republic’s elite golfers will be present in the starting field. In addition to Davidson Spilková, the field will also include Kristýna Napoleaová, Sára Kousková, Jana Melichová and Tereza Melecká.
“It’s great that I am no longer playing alone at tournaments and that there are even five of us from the Czech Republic in the starting field. Even though we are all different, there is very good energy among us, and we complement and support each other well,” the professional golfer was happy about the strong Czech presence at the tournament.
Davidson Spilková will play three more tournaments on the Ladies European Tour until the end of the year. Besides two events at the inserted Aramco series in Hong Kong and Riyadh, she will also play the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España final tournament in Marbella, Spain. After completing the tournaments, Davidson Spilková will have played at least twenty competitions this year.
The Aramco Team Series tournament will take place at the Hong Kong Golf Club from Friday, 9 October to Sunday, 8 October 2023. Klára Davidson Spilková will start alongside Germany’s Leonie Harm and Finland’s Noora Komulainen.
