Florida for the Second Time, But Still Different
Klára Spilková seeks to follow up on her best result this season – tied 15th place at the IOA Golf Classic last week – in the next Florida tournament of the Epson Tour.
The American series has moved from Longwood to Howey-In-The-Hills, where the Inova Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship is played from May 27 to 29.
“The last tournament in Florida was special in that we played more than one round on the last day as we were unable to finish the second one due to a storm. It was quite challenging, but I’m glad I succeeded. I was playing well, I stayed positive and I had a lot of birdies on the second nine,” Klára commented on her total of 7 shots under par (67-73-66).
In the final round, she recorded a total of seven birdies on par 71, with an extra double bogey on top of that.
This time, golfers will compete on the 73-par El Campeon course, measuring 6,158 meters. It is located in central Florida, a 35-minute drive from Orlando. The historic golf course was built in 1917, making it one of the oldest in Florida, while its elevation of almost 30 meters makes it an unusual place for this state.
“There really are a few hills, which is a rarity in Florida. I have never played on a course like this around here. It is traditionally narrow and has shaped greens,” Klára noted about the current Epson Tour venue.
She went through the course in the practice round, and the day before the start she perfected her game on the training areas. “I will be praying that we complete all the rounds according to the plan. “It is already very hot in Florida, which comes with frequent afternoon storms, just as we saw last week,” added Klára Spilková.
